Unicorn Frappuccino? These Unicorn Baked Goods Are So Much Better
A Houston bakery is making pink, purple and blue pan dulce and tres leche cakes, and they're lovely things.

HOUSTON, TX — You don't need no stinkin' Unicorn Frappuccino, because a bakery here is making a colorful pan dulce — or sweet bread — and not only are they more attractive than the crazy Starbucks creation, they taste much better.
Houston's El Bolillo Bakery decided to cook up its own contribution to the Unicorn Craze, and its customers can't seem to get enough. When the bakery's Facebook page and Instagram account posted images and videos of the pastries, the views and likes came by the hundreds of thousands.
"It was going crazy. And they weren't out of the oven yet," Bryan Alvarado, a manager at one of Bolillo's locations, told the Houston Chronicle. "Customers were calling, 'When are they ready?' They started coming in and lining up."

"This is one of the biggest projects that we've ever done, and we've just had as much fun as possible," Alvarado added. "It's also going up against the tradition of having the same thing for 20 years. It changes it up a little bit."

Alvarado said that workers at the El Bolillo's two locations have been going around the clock, baking uniconchas, unicuernos, or horns, and unicorn tres leches cakes. The confections are encrusted with colored sugars — each flavored differently (raspberry, piña colada, bubble gum, others).
"They do take a lot more time," Alvarado said. "We have to be more careful and make sure the colors don't mix too much or else it turns into a dark brown or a black. We don't wanna do that."
You can get a concha or a cuernito for 60 cents, and the unicorn tres leche cakes will set you back $30.
"If it stays popular long enough, we'll definitely keep it coming," Alvarado said. "If the customer asks for it, we have nothing else to do but to make it."
Take that, Starbucks Unicorn Frappuccino!
El Bolillo is located 2421 South Wayside Drive, and at 2517 Airline Drive.
Oh, and if you have not seen this rant against the Starbucks libation, you should.
