Valentine's Day To Bring Dangerous Weather to Houston Area

National Weather Service issues advisory for Tuesday morning, citing chance of tornadoes.

Love can be tempestuous, and tomorrow morning in the Houston area — Valentine's Day — the weather will certainly be that.

The National Weather Service released an advisory on Monday afternoon stating that the area can expect severe weather on Tuesday, especially between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The conditions could include brief, heavy rainfall of as much as 2 inches an hour; strong winds; dangerous lightning; and tornadoes.

The City of Houston Office of Emergency Management issued these guidelines and recommendations for tomorrow:

  • Remove all outdoor items which can be tossed by strong wind gusts and secure them.
  • Be prepared to stay in place if dangerous flooding occurs in your area.
  • Communicate with your family ahead of time about what to do if you cannot get home at a normal time due to the heavy rain.
  • Have a plan to shelter-in-place at your home, school or business.
  • If a TORNADO WARNING is issued for your area, seek shelter immediately in an interior room on the lowest floor possible.
  • If a FLASH FLOOD WARNING is issued for your area, seek higher ground and avoid travel until the warning expires.
