Arts and Crafts Nonprofit Getting Kingwood Home

Creativity Shell to open a permanent locations in Kingwood.

KINGWOOD, TX — Local arts and crafts non-profit Creativity Shell will be opening a permanent location at 1544 Kingwood Dr. in September.

Although Shelancia Daniel is referring to the new location as a makerspace, it's worth clarifying that Creativity Shell won't be anything like the two-year-old Proto Makerspace in Spring. Proto Makerspace is much more techie-centric offering classes in 3D printing, Arduino controllers and robots.

In the beginning, Creativity Shell will offer children classes in things like sewing and clothing and costume design.

Daniel hopes to be able to expand into more space and capital intensive projects, like metallurgy and jewelry making.

Both spaces have a right to use the term makerspace, but it's necessary to note how what each organization is describing with the term.

When Creativity Shell opens its new space the group will charge a fee for classes, but that fee will be used to subsidize workshops taught to children in area homeless shelters.
