Q: I am looking for two different bushes that produce berries and grow well in the Kingwood area.
A: For a fence line with morning to midday sun, wax myrtle (bayberry) and yaupon are great choices. They will take pruning well to keep them at about 8 to 10 feet tall and about 6 feet wide. The bayberry also has dwarf versions. Yaupon (Ilex vomitoria) has hybrids of various sizes, but some are male plants, which don’t produce berries. Ilex ‘Saratoga Gold’ produces golden berries.
