Atascosita Family Loses Three People in Costa Rican Flash Flood

Three members of an Atascosita family were killed in a Costa Rican flash flood.

ATASCOSITA, TX — It's a nightmare scenario: a family vacation that winds up killing most of the family. Three members of an Atascosita family were killed in recent flash flooding in Costa Rica.

Marlon Piedrasanta, 38, Esther Estrada, 67, and Angel Piedrasanta, 6, were on a family vacation to Costa Rica.

Angel Piedrasanta's mother Janet Quintanilla and 15-year-old sister, Cassandra, were also on the vacation. During the vacation the family decided to go swimming in a waterfall, unfortunately recent rains lead flash flooding.

A wall of water poured down the river and swept away Estrada, as well as Angel and Marlon Piedrasanta. Cassandra was in the river when the flood came pouring down, but she was able to make it out.

Friends of the family have started a crowd funding campaign to help pay to bring the family back to Texas and to cover expenses from the Aug. 20 funeral.
