Caregiver Accused Of Abusing Elderly Woman At Atascocita Facility

ATASCOCITA, TX — A woman who was responsible for caring for elderly patients in an assisted living facility was arrested Tuesday after she was seen on video surveillance abusing an elderly woman.

Katiuscia Martinez, 42, was arrested on her birthday at her place of business, according to a press release from Constable Mark Herman's office. She is accused of assaulting an elderly woman at the facility.

Deputy constables were called to the 5500 block of Atascocita Road for a report of elder abuse by one of the employees. The manager told deputy constables that when she arrived to work she was advised of an injury report that occurred the previous night.

The manager said she reviewed video surveillance of the incident and saw Martinez approach an 88 -year-old woman who was sitting in a chair and force her to stand up. When the woman stood up, Martinez allegedly assaulted the woman and pushed her to the ground.

When the victim fell, she hit her head and Martinez was seen on the video standing there without any urgency to help the victim.

The victim received minor swelling to the back of her head from the fall.

Martinez was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, and charged with Injury to an Elderly. Her bond was set at $2,500.00 out of the 338th District Court, Herman said.
