Kingwood Water May Be Discolored

The city of Houston is shutting off wells, which may make water in Kingwood look funky.

KINGWOOD, TX — The city of Houston's Public Works and Engineering Department will be shutting off two wells in Montgomery County, which may make water in Kingwood look brown for the next few days.

The closure of the wells can change the direction the water flows, which can disturb sediments that have settled in pipes. The discoloration will primarily impact neighborhoods near the Montgomery County line.

Since Kingwood uses ground water and not surface water it carries minerals, like iron and manganese, which can build up in the pipes. So far the discoloration has been limited to water mains, and tests have found the discoloration to be within the legal limit.

If the water coming out of your faucet is a funky color turn on the cold water spigot until the water is clear. If you turn on the hot water whatever's in the water could build up in the hot water heater. Also, flushing out a hose bib doesn't impact internal plumbing.
