Lone Star College Kingwood Closed After Lockdown

In a message, the college said the lockdown was not a drill.

KINGWOOD, TX — Lone Star College's Kingwood campus was placed on lockdown Thursday amid reports of a shooting, law enforcement and school officials said.

In a message sent out via Twitter around 1:40 p.m., the college said the warning was not a drill. Members of the college community were told to go to the nearest room and lock the door.

The college later said the lockdown is a precaution as campus police investigate an incident.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said there was no confirmation of an active shooter yet. He further added that the initial call came from a third party caller.

All rooms at the college have since been cleared and students and staff are being escorted off campus. The college is closed for the rest of the day.
