Out and About - "There are two seasons in the Galapagos..."

Welcome, everyone, to Out and About – here to catch you up on what’s happening in the Lake Houston area!
There are two seasons in the Galapagos – the wet season and the dry season. We happen to be here during the dry season and it’s difficult to imagine that this beautifully barren landscape will be green and lush and rainforest-like in a few months’ time. The landscape is almost eerily extraterrestrial, with precarious hikes on desolate fields of dark and sharp lava rocks. Until, of course, you turn around and see a passel of sea lions lounging around or a massive pile of black and red marine iguanas that blend so well into the rocks. But I think the most impressive experience is getting so close to all the wildlife. Birds don’t just fly off when you walk right up to them. You have to move off a path because the gargantuan land tortoise will probably walk over you if you don’t. I was so captivated by giant rays skating their wings across my toes repeatedly (not even kidding, I think it was a good half hour) that I totally forgot to take a single picture. It has been an amazing experience.
