Although, the firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring properties, fire and smoke damage rendered the double-wide a complete loss.
While battling the blaze, firefighters recognized identified signs that it may have been intentionally set and called for investigators from the Montgomery County Fire Marshall's Office.
MCFMO investigators were able to determine that the building had been intentionally set ablaze, and were quickly able to zero in on a likely suspect. The investigators made contact with Allen Frank Singleton Jr., the homeowner.
As the investigation unfolded, investigators learned that Singleton had been home when the fire started, but he fled before the firefighters arrived. By late Sunday evening, Singleton was under arrest for allegedly setting the fire.
Singleton is charged with arson of a habitation, a first-degree felony, and is currently being held on a $75,000 bond. While battling the blaze, two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
MCFMO investigators are gathering evidence and trying to determine if additional charges can be brought against Singleton for allegedly creating a situation that caused the firefighters to be injured.
