Student Who Brought Gun To Houston School Will Be Charged: HPD

HOUSTON, TX — Houston Police plan to charge the student who tried to bring a gun inside the walls of Houston Can! Academy shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday. According to the report, a gun was found in the hood of a hooded sweatshirt (hoodie) of a student during a regular screening process that takes place before students enter school. The security guard confiscated the gun and the student darted away. HPD found and detained the student who they believed brought the gun.
According to a statement from the school, the student enrolled just two weeks ago, and there were no reports of injury. The school was placed on lockdown.

A student who enrolled with us two weeks ago arrived at our campus this morning with a gun in his jacket. During the daily routine for entering students onto the campus, our campus security officer discovered and confiscated the weapon. Due to the swift response of our security staff, students and staff were not in any immediate danger. The matter is now in the hands of Houston Police Department. The school is secure and all students are safe. The safety of the students is always our top priority. Our security process worked this morning, keeping all students and staff safe. We have counselors in the school available to anyone needing help.
The Houston Can! Academy Hobby campus is located at 9020 Gulf Freeway.
