H-E-B Coming Soon To Meyerland Plaza
The major Texas grocery chain announced the location after closing another Meyerland location

HOUSTON, TX — Meyerland lost an H-E-B because of Hurricane Harvey, but the neighborhood could get another one soon, according to a report by Realty News Report. Meyerland Plaza, a retail center at the southwest corner of Loop 610 and Beechnut, will be the new home of H-E-B as it continues its growth in Houston.
Construction of a new 100,000-square-foot store comes on the heels of permanently shutting the doors of the former H-E-B at Chimney Rock and South Braeswood, which had been repaired from one flood before taking on even more damage from flooding during Hurricane Harvey.
Meyerland Plaza, built in 1957 and redeveloped by Ed Wulfe about 20 years ago, is a 950,000-square-foot shopping complex just south of the City of Bellaire, a town known for its wealth and high-dollar spending. Meyerland Plaza a J.C. Penney and other big box retailers. Meyerland Plaza is currently owned by a partnership of Fidelis Realty Partners of Houston and BlackRock Realty Advisors of New York.

"We are in active negotiations on a site, and hope to announce the details in the very near future,” Cyndy Garza Roberts, H-E-B public affairs director for Houston, said in an emailed statement in the Houston Business Journal. “This is an important project for us, and we are moving as quickly as we can.”
H-E-B last week broke ground on a 92,000-square-foot store at 2300 N. Shepherd Drive in The Heights. This followed a chain of events that started with local voters approving the the removal of dry-zone prohibition of certain alcohol sales, notably beer and wine. That got the wheels moving forward to The Heights getting Texas' most popular grocery store chain in the neighborhood.

According to a press release, construction on the new store will begin next month with a grand opening in the fall of 2018. Similar to the H-E-B under construction in Bellaire, the one in The Heights will be a multilevel location.
H-E-B in the Meyerland Plaza is also expected to be a two-story facility. The retail portion of the structure, is expected to be between 95,000 and 100,000 square feet.
