Harvey: Houston Opens 3 New Neighborhood Assistance Centers

After opening 8 additional centers last week, the city opens more to provide essential services to Hurricane Harvey flood victims.

HOUSTON, TX — Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner announced Wednesday the opening of three additional Neighborhood Restoration Centers (NRC). Turner said this comes on the heels of opening eight centers last week and following a successful experiment with providing essential services to Hurricane Harvey flood victims at the grassroots level.

"We are taking a neighborhood by neighborhood approach to getting assistance to the many people who need it," Turner said.

In November, the city and the BakerRipley non-profit organization opened a pilot version of an NRC at the Kashmere Multi-Service Center. It proved to be a success with 700 Houstonians served there so far with disaster case management and vital services such as temporary housing assistance, legal aid, mental health and wellness care, home repair and rebuilding information and employment help.

The city announced the opening of eight more centers last week in addition to another one previously opened, and here are the nine:
