Houston Releases Holiday Garbage Collection Schedule

HOUSTON, TX — Nothing says the holidays like piles of garbage, and it’s likely to pile up higher than normal as discarded boxes and gift wrapping ripped to shreds are discarded and tossed aside.

Of course, those hard working people who make the rounds to pick up that trash will be deservedly spending Christmas with their families and that means the schedule to garbage pick up will vary between Christmas and New Year’s Day. The city of Houston Solid Waste Management Department has released the holiday schedule to let you know when trash collection will be made on these national holidays.

Here's the garbage and recycling holiday schedule:

Friday, Dec. 22 (Christmas Eve - Observed)
CITY HOLIDAY: Friday’s Garbage and Curbside Recycling WILL BE COLLECTED. Neighborhood Depositories/Recycling Centers, Westpark Recycling Center and The Reuse Warehouse are open.

Saturday, Dec. 23
NO COLLECTION SERVICES. Neighborhood Depositories/Recycling Centers, Westpark Recycling Center and The Reuse Warehouse are open.

Sunday, Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve)
NO COLLECTION SERVICES. All facilities closed.

Monday, Dec. 25 (Christmas Day)
CITY HOLIDAY: NO COLLECTION SERVICES. All facilities and services closed.

Tuesday, Dec. 26
Monday’s Garbage and Curbside Recycling collected today. The Neighborhood Depositories/Recycling Centers, Westpark, The Reuse Warehouse re-open.

Wednesday, Dec. 27
Tuesday’s Garbage and Curbside Recycling collected today.

Thursday, Dec. 28
Thursday’s Garbage and Curbside Recycling collected.

Friday, Dec. 29
Friday’s Garbage and Curbside Recycling collected.

Monday, Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day)
CITY HOLIDAY: NO COLLECTION SERVICES. All facilities and services closed.

Tuesday, Jan. 2
Monday’s Garbage and Curbside Recycling collected. The Neighborhood Depositories/Recycling Centers, Westpark Recycling Center and The Reuse Warehouse re-open.

Wednesday, Jan. 3
Tuesday’s Garbage and Curbside Recycling collected.

Thursday, Jan. 4
Normal schedule for Garbage and Curbside Recycling resumes today.
