Kaepernick Rumors Fade As Texans Sign McGloin As Backup QB
The loss of Deshaun Watson for the season moves Tom Savage into the starting role and the need for a backup

HOUSTON, TX — NFL sources have indicated the Houston Texans will sign former Oakland quarterback Matt McGloin to fill the backup role after the team lost starter Deshaun Watson for the season Thursday at practice. McGloin played at Penn State University when current Texans coach Bill O'Brien was the head coach for the Nittany Lions.
McCloin, 27, who is listed at 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, went undrafted out of college and signed with the Raiders as a rookie free agent. He's got seven career starts, and during his career he's completed 55.9 percent of his passes for 1,868 yards, 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions with a 75.3 passer rating.
After news surfaced of Watson's injury on Thursday, a social media buzz began that former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick could finally landed on an NFL team with the Texans. Kaepernick began the controversial national anthem kneel during the 2016 preseason and currently isn't on a team.

More than half of the Texans players knelt prior to last week's game in Seattle in protest to owner Bob McNair's remarks about "inmates running the prison." There's no word if any of that was tied to not signing Kaepernick, who has gotten passed over by every team in the league.
