Meyerland H-E-B Will Not Reopen After Harvey Flood
The store rebuilt after Memorial Day floods in 2015 won't be rebuilt again

HOUSTON, TX — The flooding waters from Hurricane Harvey that temporarily shut down H-E-B in Meyerland has finally forced the franchise to keep its doors closed for good. The store had to rebuild after the Memorial Day floods in 2015, but this time the company pulled the plug on another rebuild.
It's "no longer feasible to repair and reopen the store," the company said in a statement. While the famous Texas supermarket revises its plans for a Meyerland location, it still intends to open a new location at Bissonnet and Rice in the spring.
According to a report in the Houston Chronicle, there were two other H-E-B locations that experienced extreme flooded during the powerful storm that dumped more than 50 inches of rain in some parts of Houston. The company said it's still checking out damage at its fairly-new Kingwood store that probably won't open until early 2018.

The Chronicle added that Harvey forced several other grocers like Fiesta Mart and Kroger to "close stores for extensive repairs." Fiesta this week reopened its location on Mesa and Tidwell, but two of its stores remained closed. One near Addicks Reservoir took on 10 feet of water during the storm, and its location on Interstate 10 near Northwood is still under renovation.
Kroger lost two stores in the Champions Forest area, and both are expected to reopen by the end of the year.
