Scorpions, Tarantulas Rescued From Abandoned Apartment

Houston SPCA picked up animals and delivered them to a veterinarian for examination.

HOUSTON, TX — Maintenance workers at an apartment complex made a chilling discovery on Tuesday morning when they found several boxes of scorpions and tarantulas in southwest Houston.

The menagerie, which apparently had been left behind by a tenant, included a deathstalker scorpions, as reported by KTRK.

"Unless you hurt them, they don't bite. They've got to be in fear," Chris Kendrick, an officer with the Precinct 1 constable's office, said.

The animals could eventually be housed in the Houston Zoo or with an animal rescue facility if deemed healthy.

A spokesperson at the apartment said that the vacant unit would be treated in case any of the scorpions or spiders escaped and are hiding on the premises.
