Second Man Charged In 10-Month-Old's Shooting Death

Police suspect Messiah Marshall's murder was linked to gang activity.

HOUSTON, TX – The murder of a child is a horrendous act, and when it occurs as the child is being held by his father, the horror is amplified. That's exactly what happened in Meyerland on June 14.

Messiah Marshall, the 10-month-old victim, was laid to rest a few days ago, and on Tuesday a second suspect was charged. Kravon Human, 20, is facing a capital murder charge. If he is convicted, he could receive the death penalty.

Human joins Jared Balogun, 24, who was charged last week with capital murder. He confessed to being involved in the shooting, which occurred near the Nob Hill Apartment complex, located on North Braeswood Boulevard.

As reported by various media outlets, Messiah's father, Nigel Marshall, attempted to shield his son from the bullets, but the infant was hit. He died at a nearby gas station, where Marshall had fled in an attempt to summon help.

The shooting has Meyerland residents on edge, and at a meeting on Monday hundreds assembled to voice their concerns to Houston's mayor, Sylvester Turner, and the city's police chief, Art Acevedo.
