Alcohol Delivery Via App? Drizly Wants To Serve You At Home

You know the scenario: You're cooking at home after a long day at work and realize you are all out of wine. What to do? Turn off the heat under the risotto and run to the store? No, that would not be good for the dish. In steps Drizly to save your evening.

Pull out your smartphone, call up the app, and select your bottle from any number of Houston-area stores, including Goody Goody Liquor, Posh Liquor, and others. The service launched in the Bayou City on Thursday.

The app lets you order liquors, beer, and wine — think Tito's, Bulleit, The Prisoner Red, or Karbach — and the prices are on par with local retail outlets. Drizly charges a $5 fee in Houston (it's free in New York, and $2 in New Orleans).

"Our partnership with Drizly at our Dallas locations has been a great opportunity for us to provide additional value to our customers, so we're pleased bring its many benefits to Houston," said Armando Gonzalez, marketing communications manager for Goody Goody Liquor, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.

“We launched Drizly in 2013 as an on-demand service to make the alcohol buying experience easier. Since then we have aggressively developed our retail partner network, user base and technology to support an e-commerce platform that appeals to a much broader set of consumers," Nick Rellas, co-founder and CEO of Drizly, said in a statement.

One thing to know if you download Drizly and want to use it: For now, the service is available primarily within Beltway 8 and the Energy Corridor. The service, which is expanding, is now operating in more than 40 cities in the U.S. and Canada.
