Annual Uptown Houston Holiday Lighting Postponed Until 2019

Postponement because of construction of Post Oak Boulevard

HOUSTON, TX — A fine Uptown holiday tradition will be put on hold, at least for now and the next year. The Annual Uptown Houston Holiday Lighting has been postponed until 2019, but another event could take its place in the time being.

The postponement is because of construction on Post Oak Boulevard, and event organizers indicated a new event could take its place and the planning for that is in the works.

Every year on Thanksgiving evening, thousands of Houstonians and out-of-towners gather along Post Oak Boulevard for the event. The event features festive music by local groups; holiday characters including larger than life Santa’s reindeer; a special appearance from Santa; lighting of more than a half million twinkling lighting on 80 trees and an incredible fireworks extravaganza.

The holiday ambiance created by 80 brilliantly-lit holiday trees standing guard over Post Oak Boulevard, as well as numerous decorations and lighting throughout the area continues into the holiday season.

“We have an opportunity to create an even more spectacular event and in incredible destination boulevard for the holidays,” said Uptown Houston District president John Breeding on KHOU. “Many of the new elements on the boulevard will become future holiday decorations.”

The event traditionally has holiday music and concessions, a Merry Holiday stage show, a balcony decorating contest, Santa Claus and a dazzling fireworks show.

Proceeds from the event go towards local charities.
