Houston City Council Honors Hero Who Gave His Life
Glenn "Woody" Higgins was electrocuted trying to save occupants of burning car.

HOUSTON, TX — He did something that many others might have avoided, and he did it in a selfless manner, an act meant to save the lives of others. He was a true hero, and on Tuesday, the City of Houston recognized him as one.
Glenn "Woody" Higgins, who was a husband, father, and grandfather, passed away in 2016, a victim of injuries he sustained trying to save the occupants of a burning car that had hit an electrical pole near Beltway 8 and State Road 288. Wiggins stepped on a power line that had been damaged by the collision.
Higgins was forced to have both his legs amputated and underwent surgery, but the injuries were too severe. He passed away in 2016 at the (too) young age of 58.

The Houston City Council have officially named him a hero at the ceremony on Tuesday.
"We appreciate what they've done, recognizing him. He's truly, truly a hero. Even a year later, he's still a hero," James Joseph, Higgins' cousin, told KPRC.
