Houston Traffic Alert: Gulf Freeway Southbound Faces Shutdown This Weekend

If you plan to drive toward Galveston on the Gulf Freeway this weekend, plan ahead and be prepared for massive traffic slowdowns.

TxDot has announced that all southbound lanes of the freeway from Scarsdale Boulevard to NASA Parkway will be closed beginning at 9 p.m. tonight through Monday morning at 5 a.m.

You'll have to exit at Scarsdale and use the frontage road through NASA Parkway, or look for another way to get down to the area (a route through Pearland is one alternative).

The construction this weekend will put the final touches on that stretch of the interstate's southbound lanes.
