Maggots In Almond Joy Lead Houston Woman To Sue Walmart

Peables Fowls is seeking $1,000,000, claims injuries she sustained were caused by 'unexpected maggots'.

HOUSTON, TX — A woman who says she got a big shock when she opened a candy bar is suing the world's largest retailer for $1,000,000, claiming that the maggot-infested Almond Joy caused her to sustain injuries to her finger and ankle while trying to escape the larva.

Peables Fowls' lawsuit states that she purchased the candy bar in October 2016 at the Walmart located at 9598 Rowlett Road, then returned to her car.

"While reversing Peables opened the candy bar's wrapper to find that the candy bar was filled with a large amount of maggots," the lawsuit, written by Fowl's attorney, Carl Gordon, recounts. The maggots then "fell out of the wrapper and into Peables' lap and mouth area."

The suit continues, alleging that the "unexpected maggots" caused Fowls to "panic and quickly exit the vehicle" and injure herself.

Fowls then, according to the suit, and as reported by the Houston Chronicle, went back into the Walmart to complain about the bar, but grew ill and felt a tightening in her chest. She vomited, and was taken to a hospital in an ambulance.

The lawsuit claims that the retailer was negligent in not ensuring that the Almond Joy was safe for human consumption.

"We take this matter and product safety seriously, and when we learned of this, we immediately reported it to our supplier, Hershey," a Walmart spokesperson told the Chronicle. "We have not been served and have not had an opportunity to review the allegations."
