'No Refusal Policy' Enforced Tonight By Harris County Cops

Prosecutors will ask judges to sign warrants to test blood samples of suspected drunk drivers on Super Bowl Sunday.

HOUSTON, TX — The Harris County District Attorney's Office has authorized a "No Refusal" day for Super Bowl night in the city and county. Police will be out in force to look for suspected drunk drivers. The Super Bowl is typically one of the busiest nights with drunk drivers on the road. Anyone pulled over under the suspicion of driving drunk who refuses a breathalyzer will be subject to have have their blood drawn, according to Sean Teare, chief of the vehicular crimes division of the Harris County DA's Office.

"The players in Sunday's Super Bowl have prepared their whole lives for this moment," Teare told the Houston Chronicle. "You can prepare for the game right now, by having a plan to get home safe if you are out partying because we already have our plan in place to catch you."

Safe ways to get from your party tonight include: getting a ride from someone sober, order an Uber or call a taxi.

The "No Refusal" policy is standard operating procedure for larger municipalities around the state in order to curb drunk driving and drunk driving accidents on holidays and other big drinking outings like major sporting events. Similar weekends in the last year were Super Bowl in town last February and the year's three World Series home games.
