Popeyes Reports Data Breach at Seven Houston-Area Restaurants

Company states credit card numbers and other information had been compromised.

HOUSTON, TX — If you ate at a Popeyes between May 5 and August 18 in 2016 and paid for your meal with a debit or credit card, your personal data may have been compromised.

Popeyes officials said in a statement this week that malware was present on computers in that period at the following locations in the Houston area:

  • 16425 Imperial Valley Drive, Houston, Texas
  • 2406 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, Texas
  • 1710 Highway 90, Liberty, Texas
  • 404 W. Parkwood, Friendswood, Texas
  • 9802 FM1764, Texas City, Texas
  • 6804 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas
  • 1153 W. Main Street, League City, Texas

The software may have collected names, addresses, credit card numbers, and security codes, according to the statement, and affected individuals are urged to review their card accounts regularly and monitor their credit reports for any discrepancies.

The company said in the statement that it had been working with a forensics expert on the breach and to prevent similar incidents, adding that the malware responsible for the data theft had been eradicated.
