Tacos And Breakfast Tacos Still Waiting To Become Texas State Symbols
Legislature fails to approve resolutions giving culinary favorites official Lone Star status.

They come in many varieties, and can be made of corn or flour, and are beloved by millions of people around the world. I'm talking about tacos, and if you live in Texas, it's nearly impossible to drive one mile in any direction in any decent-size city without passing a taco stand or restaurant. Simply put, Texas love their tacos.
But love wasn't able to overcome legislative entropy during the recently ended Texas legislative session: lawmakers failed to pass resolutions making the breakfast taco the state's official breakfast food and the taco the official state food.
The bills were being debated in the Texas House Culture, Recreation and Tourism Committee, but the session expired before any official action was taken.

"Whether purchased at a drive-through in Fort Worth, ordered at a restaurant in Corpus Christi, or served by a loving grandmother in Del Rio, the breakfast taco has become a signature Texas food on a par with barbecue and chicken-fried steak, and it is enjoyed by countless residents of the Lone Star State each morning as the perfect way to start their day," Stephanie Klick, a Republican representative, wrote in House Concurrent Resolution 92, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.

Another representative, Gina Hinojosa, waxed similarly poetic for the taco in her House Concurrent Resolution 110: "WHEREAS, One thing Texans can agree on is that, despite the availability of tacos in the other 49 states, the tastiest tacos can be found in the great State of Texas."
