Ted Cruz's Houston Offices Surrounded By Protesters

HOUSTON, TX — Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who has come out against the Senate version of the health bill because he thinks it is not strict enough, has been a bit sheepish as of late about meeting with constituents, so a couple of dozen of them rallied at his Houston offices on Tuesday to protest the health legislation.

A vote on the measure was delayed late on Tuesday until Washington politicians return from the July 4 holiday.

Indivisible Houston, the group that organized the protest, was joined by individuals affiliated with SEIU Texas and Southeast Texas Progressives.

Rebecca Rodriguez, a 61-year-old from Seabrook, told the Houston Chronicle that she had been gathering at Cruz's offices every Tuesday for a while now, and added that the protests now have more importance because of the health bill's possibility of being made law.

"This is the most lazy, chicken thing in the world to have taken this bill and discussed it behind closed doors," said Sarah Terrell, 59, who has been covered by an Affordable Care Act policy for several years. She said a preexisting had previously made it onerous for her husband to gain coverage.

Another protester, Jennifer Mathis, 42, said that the ACA had made it possible for her to receive treatment for bipolar disorder.

"There are things in this bill that frighten me," she said. "I don't know what's going to happen to my future."
