VIDEO: Former Astros Prospect ID'd In Beating A Woman

Astros prospect violently struck his girlfriend inside stairwell at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, according to surveillance video.

HOUSTON, TX — A once promising player in the Houston Astros organization has been identified as the man violently striking a woman in a surveillance video. Danry Vasquez is seen hitting his then girlfriend in, of all places, the stairwell of Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi.

The 2016 video surfaced Wednesday and shows Vasquez and the woman enter the stairwell through a door. At the top of the stairs, he begins striking her. He follows her down the stairs and continues striking her, dislodging her eyeglasses several times.

The 2016 video was obtained from a Corpus Christi TV Station.

Vasquez, a Venezuela native, signed a contract with a $1.2 million signing bonus with the Detroit Tigers when he was 16 — before an eventual trade to the Astros.

Vasquez was 22 at the time and later arrested and charged with a misdemeanor. The case was dismissed after he completed a plea deal with the district attorney's office, in which he had to pay a fine and attend classes, the station reported.

The Astros released Vasquez, who signed with a team in Pennsylvania after the alleged domestic violence incident, the station reported. The Lancaster Barnstormers announced Tuesday night through social media that he was released after the video release.
