Wheatley Girls Fall To Argyle In State Semifinal, 62-46, Friday
After taking a double-digit lead in the first quarter behind hot shooting, Wheatley hit a cold spell against the 3-time defending champs.

The Wheatley girls basketball team's quest for a state title fell short at the hands of Argyle, 62-46, Friday afternoon at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Wheatley had a blistering-hot first quarter, but the Lady Wildcats saw a double-digit lead fade. Wheatley scored 19 points in the first quarter and only 27 the rest of the game.
Argyle (33-7), the three-time defending state champion, advances to the Class 4A state championship on Saturday to face the winner of Denver City and San Antonio Veterans Memorial. Argyle, aiming for a fourth-straight state title, will be playing in its fifth title game in as many years.
Wheatley ends the season at 31-4.

After a rather sluggish start, Wheatley got hot behind the 3-point line and took a commanding 14-point lead in the first half. Telisha Brown and Laila Blair combined to drain 5-of-7 behind the arc for 71 percent in the first half and Wheatley led, 28-22, at halftime.
Blair led Wheatley with 17 points and Brown added 14. Ariana Taylor scored seven points.

Argyle senior Gabby Standifer scored a game-high 22 points, including 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
Although Wheatley out rebounded Argyle, 33-31, Argyle scored 31 points in the paint to Wheatley's 18 and the Lady Eagles finished the game on a 14-0 run, outscoring Wheatley, 39-18, in the second half.
