Wheatley Honored On 50th Anniversary Of State Championship

The Wildcats won the Class 4A title in 1968.

SAN ANTONIO, TX — The University Interscholastic League (UIL) recognizes anniversaries of state champions every year, and this year they commemorated the Wheatley Wildcats 1968 state basketball championship.

Wheatley won the Class 4A title — the highest division in the state at the time — by defeating Odessa Permian (84-70) in the semifinal and then Dallas' Thomas Jefferson (85-80) for the championship.

The team was recognized today at the Alamodome, site of this year's UIL state championships. All state title games will be played Saturday.
