150 Layoffs At Austin-Based National Instruments: Report

The global tech firm confirmed to media outlets that it would trim the jobs from among its 2,700-worker force in Central Texas.

AUSTIN, TX — Austin-based global tech firm National Instruments on Wednesday confirmed it would lay off 150 workers among its Central Texas workforce, according to a published report.

KVUE and the Austin American-Statesman reported 150 National Instruments workers of its 2,700-worker force in Central Texas will be impacted by the layoffs. All told, the company employs some 8,000 workers worldwide, according to the report.

Company officials were vague about the reasons for the imminent layoffs, saying the move was meant to "...align our investments to our business goals" and "...to better represent the engineering needs of our customers."

A company spokesperson emailed Patch to note the number of layoffs represents less than 2 percent of its total workforce. However, the level represents 5.56 percent of its Central Texas workforce numbering some 2,700 workers.
