Austin Community College Events For Aug. 26-Sept. 1, 2019

ACC expands no-cost textbook options for students through new national partnership as one of 10 participating colleges nationwide.

AUSTIN, TX — Austin Community College will be hosting a series of community events from Aug. 26 through Sept. 1. Events include:

  • Fall 2019 Semester Begins: ACC students are back on campus. The fall 2019 semester begins Monday, August 26. Support staff will be stationed on campuses all week to answer questions and connect students with advisors and support services. The college offers more than 100 programs from a bachelor’s degree in Nursing to an associate degree, university transfer, and certificate options both in class and online. New this fall, fully online courses are discounted for out-of-district and out-of-state students. To learn more, visit austincc.edu/fall.
  • Short Semester Registration: Current and prospective students can still sign up for fall classes with short semester options. The college offers more than 600 short semester courses. Classes are offered online and on-campus on days, evenings, and weekends. The 12-week session begins Monday, Sept. 23. The deadline to register is Sept. 22. The college also offers eight-week sessions, which begin October 21. For more information, visit austincc.edu/shortsemester.
  • ACC expands no-cost textbook options for students through new national partnership: ACC is one of ten colleges and universities nationwide selected to participate in the 2019-2020 OpenStax Institutional Partnership Program to expand the use of free, peer-reviewed textbooks known as open educational resources (OER). OERs are used in course and degree options at ACC known as Z-degrees and zero textbook cost (ZTC) classes. Since its launch in 2018, ACC students have saved more than $3.5 million in textbook costs.   • Fashion Hour: The ACC Fashion Incubator hosts featured guests Todd White and Frank Curry, fashion photographers, for the August edition of ACC Fashion Hour. Together, they will explore what it takes to be a photographer trying to make it in the fashion industry. ACC Fashion Hour is Friday, August 30, from noon to 1 p.m., at the Fashion Incubator at ACC Highland.
