Austin Community College Stages Events Through Dec. 1, 2019
From the first step in earning an engineering degree to cops getting their facial hair or nails painted for charity, much is scheduled.
AUSTIN, TX — Austin Community College will host a series of community events through Dec. 1.
Events include:
- Find out how to get guaranteed acceptance to one of the best Engineering degrees. Registration is now open for an information session on the Texas A&M-Chevron Engineering Academy at Austin Community College. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m to noon, on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Highland Campus, Building 1000, 6101 Highland Campus Dr. Current and prospective students will be able to meet with A&M and ACC representatives to learn about the partnership that allows students to complete the first two years of an A&M engineering degree at ACC. Need more incentive to attend? Here's a fun fact: The Austin Chamber of Commerce expects demand for engineers to reach more than 4,800 by 2022.
- ACC participates in the season of giving: ACC works to give back this holiday season through several campaigns.
- 25th annual Giving Tree: Support ACC students and their families by picking up a gift tag that features the first name, age, and wish list for the child of an ACC student. Gifts should be purchased, wrapped, and delivered by Monday, Dec. 2.
- Brown Santa Program: Students, staff, and faculty may donate puzzles and games for the Travis County Sheriff’s Office annual Brown Santa Program. Donations may be dropped off at any ACC police station — located at every ACC campus. Sponsored by the ACC Student Government Association, the drive benefits children of disadvantaged families. Donations will be delivered Monday, Dec. 9.
- Beard It Up Campaign: ACC police officers are once again participating in a fundraiser benefiting pediatric cancer research for the Beard It Up/Color for the Cure Campaign. Male officers pay a small fee to either grow a mustache or beard while female officers pay to color their hair or paint their nails, which is typically against the dress code. Last year, ACC officers raised more than $4,000 to support The Cure Starts Now, a foundation dedicated to finding a cure for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma.
- Spring Registration: Spring registration continues for all students. The college offers more than 100 programs from associate degrees to university transfer and certificate options. Courses are available both in-class and online on days, evenings, and weekends. The spring term begins Tuesday, Jan. 21. To learn more, visit austincc.edu/spring.
