About WIC

Texas WIC helps 707,000 clients on average each month with infant, child and prenatal nutrition and breastfeeding support. WIC or the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children is a U.S. Department of Agriculture program that is available to qualified pregnant women, new moms and families with children younger than five. Administered in Texas by HHSC, the program provides nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and support, referrals and nutritious foods.

“This is such an important partnership that will help families whose children are at critical periods of development by providing the nutrition they need now, and education that establishes the foundation for a lifetime of good health,” Texas WIC Director Edgar Curtis said in a prepared statement. “This is precisely what the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women Infants and Children is in place for.”
