Car Passenger Dies 6 Days After North Austin Traffic Crash

Vincent Laroy Cleveland, 50, was injured while traveling in a car Feb. 4 on Rundberg Lane before succumbing to his injuries days later.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Thursday identified the passenger of a vehicle who died after a traffic collision last week in North Austin.

A preliminary police investigation shows a black 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse was traveling eastbound on the inside lane along the 1200 East Rundberg Lane just before 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4. The driver attempted to turn left onto northbound Teasdale Terrace when a white, 2007 Ford F-150 traveling westbound on Rundberg Lane collided with the Mitsubishi, police said.

The passenger in the Mitsubishi, Vincent Laroy Cleveland, 50, rushed to Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin for treatment of his injuries, according to a police account. Six days later, just before 4 p.m., Cleveland succumbed to his injuries, police reported.

Based on a police investigation, it does not appear that driver impairment or speed were contributing factors in the collision, officials noted. Police noted both drivers involved in the wreck remained on the scene to cooperate with the ensuing investigation.

Police said the crash marked Austin’s 16th fatal traffic crash of 2020, resulting in 17 fatalities this year. At this time in 2019, police added, there were seven traffic fatalities.
