On Tuesday, June 29, Pflugerville City Council held a special meeting focused on Pflugerville’s future facilities and growth. They heard a third reading on a budget amendment, which included additions to the FY 21 General Fund, Utility Fund, and Capital Improvement Fund. During this third reading, City Council amended the ordinance to remove a $10 million land purchase for a future City Hall and multi-purpose complex development. This item will return for a fourth reading at the July 13 Council meeting. Additionally, City Council removed $10 million for land from a notice of intention to issue certificates of obligation.
City Council also worked on economic development elements for the Aspire Strategic Plan by discussing a series of topics surrounding strategy for economic development. Council discussed the willingness to target specific development patterns or land uses, the role of city government and PCDC in proving there's a market for Class A office space, the use of infrastructure as an economic development tool, if property and sales tax ROI should be the primary factor when determining incentive offerings and how the city balances a stable property tax rate with long-term maintenance costs.
