The Charter Review Commission concluded their service and submitted eight recommendations for changes to the City of Pflugerville’s home rule charter, the legal governing document that defines the organization, powers, function and essential procedures of our city government. This document is reviewed at least every five years, and recommendations are submitted to City Council. While the recommendations cannot be modified by City Council, they can propose additional propositions to be considered by voters in November 2021. Thank you to the Pflugerville residents who volunteered their time over the last six months to review the document. For more information on the Charter Review Commission visit Charter Review Commission.
City Council approved the first reading of a budget amendment, which included additions to the FY 21 General Fund, Utility Fund, and Capital Improvement Fund. This reflects funding sources from sales tax revenue in excess of projections, increased Utility revenue from increases in consumption, and Capital Project Propositions A, B, and C, which include transportation projects, park improvements and a recreation and senior center, that were approved by Pflugerville voters in November 2020, after the FY 21 budget was finalized. Also added to the proposed list of projects is a new City Hall. At this time, a funding source and location for a new City Hall have not been decided, and this ordinance will return for a second reading on June 8.
The City of Pflugerville wants to hear from you for the 2021 Resident Survey. Every two years a survey is conducted to see how we're doing and measure feedback from our community. Surveys were mailed to a random sample of Pflugerville residents starting in April and more than 500 have been received. The results will be presented to City Council in June. Anyone interested in providing additional feedback may take the survey online. Visit pflugervilletx.gov/survey to take the survey today.
The Youth Advisory Council met virtually in 2020 providing an opportunity for Pflugerville youth to learn about City government. In addition to social activities, the committee volunteered with the Library drive thru trick or treat event, Blue Santa gift wrapping and landscaping at Heritage Park. They participated in virtual events including the 2021 MLK Youth Summit, Teens Speak Black Lives Matter Online Discussion, they participated in the Aspire 2040 Comprehensive Plan survey and participated as focus group for the plan. The group learned a lot about city government, their community and local politics. They encouraged other youth to get involved. Thank you to the YAC for your citywide contributions over the past year. The City continues to celebrate this program which engages youth with city government. Find out more about the Youth Advisory Council and apply to be a member for the 2021-2022 school year here.

There's a lot of rain in the forecast and it's also Flood Awareness Week with the Texas Floodplain Management Association. Remember to stay informed about ongoing weather forecasts. Watch for water over roadways. Turn Around, Don't Drown. Follow the National Weather Service for local updates and consider signing up for text and email weather alerts at WarnCentralTexas.org. Many resources are available to help you prepare for a flood. The TFMA recommends you take pictures of valuables inside your home so you have them on hand if an emergency or flood were to occur. Store important paperwork and documents in a waterproof container. Create digital versions of files and save to a portable hard drive. Consider flood insurance so you are protected against a flood. Be prepared.
