City Touts Rec Center To Combat Holiday Weight Gain

Affordable memberships start at $6.25 per month.

NORTH AUSTIN-PFLUGERVILLE, TX -- The inevitable weight gain the holiday season brings has yielded a ready-made marketing technique for Pflugerville Recreation Center officials.

“The holidays are a time when we all enjoy seeing friends and family and…eating!” city officials write on the municipal website. “A great way to stay in shape for the holidays is to visit the Pflugerville Recreation Center.”

The rec center at 400 Immanuel Rd. features a weight room, game room, indoor walking track and a variety of fitness-oriented classes and programs for families.

Adult memberships are $75 per year—just $6.25 a month, city officials note. Family rates run $125.

The rec center last year underwent $50,000 worth of renovations—a brand new coat of paint, rubber flooring in the weight room and detailing of window panes and railings. The revamping was financed through the city’s general capital reserve.

In touting fitness center memberships, city officials, naturally, couldn’t resist another bit of word play on the silent “p” sound in the town’s name: “Give the gift of pfitness!” they write with palpable enthusiasm.
