NORTH AUSTIN-PFLUGERVILLE, TX -- Community members are mourning the loss of Terry Struble, former board president of the Pflugerville Fire Department and a major civic booster for the city at large.

“He loved the fire department,” Rudy Metayer, a PFD commissioner, told the newspaper. “Absolutely adored it.”

According to the PFD website, Struble first joined the board of commissioners in the 1990s when the fire department was merely a rural fire prevention district.

He played a key role in the construction of the city’s fire stations, along with the administration building, conference and education center and training field.

Struble was diagnosed with cancer some years back, but managed to remain active on the PFD board. But having recently broken his hip, he became especially vulnerable to pneumonia given his weakened state, the newspaper reported.

He reportedly was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing.
