Man Shot In Leg By Austin Police Amid SWAT Standoff
Police descended on a North Austin hotel in search of Dylan Polinski, 23, who was accused of aggravated robbery in Williamson County.
AUSTIN, TX — The Austin Police Department continues to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Monday during which a suspect was shot in the leg.
The incident occurred at the Springhill Suites, 12520 North Interstate 35, after Austin police were contacted by their Round Rock counterparts on the whereabouts of a man wanted for aggravated robbery in Williamson County, police wrote in an advisory.
Austin police originally arrived at the hotel at 9:50 p.m. to discover the suspect — identified as 23-year-old Dylan Michael Polinski — was not there. Police returned to the scene early Monday morning just past 3:45 a.m. after receiving a tip the wanted man was at the scene, according to the police account. Polinski barricaded himself in the hotel room with a woman who appeared to be held against her will, police said.

Officers secured the scene, and contacted the SWAT team, evacuating adjacent hotel rooms in the process, according to the report. After the SWAT team arrived at around 5:20 a.m., police said, Polinski exited the room with the woman used as human shield. SWAT members were able to free the woman as the suspect ran down a hallway toward a stairwell exit, police said.
Polinski was confronted by police who tased him as he entered the stairwell, according to the police account, which prompted him to close the door to the stairwell. The Taser was ineffective, according to police, prompting Polinski to open the door and rush toward officers before being shot by an officer.
Polinski was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries before being booked into jail for the aggravated robbery warrant, police said. Additional charges could follow pending the outcome of the investigation, police said. No other injuries were reported.
