National Night Out In Pflugerville Returns In October

Pflugerville will join cities across the country to participate in the annual National Night Out event in October.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Pflugerville will join cities across the country to participate in the annual National Night Out program in October, officials announced Monday.

The crime and drug prevention event will kick off Tuesday, October 5 and will feature a variety of activities such as block parties, cookouts, visits from local police and fire department, parades, flashlight walks, contests and youth programs.

The city said it was unable to hold the National Night Out event in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, but is looking forward to celebrating the program this year.

Authorities said the event is important to celebrate because it heightens crime and drug awareness, generates support for and participation in local anti-crime programs.

"This event has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation," city officials said.

National Night Out parties can take a variety of forms, officials said. It could feature a traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils or it can include public gatherings in neighborhood parks, backyards and driveways.

Authorities are asking participants to register their party through the city to receive resources and a scheduled visit from law enforcement. There is no cost to register or participate, officials said.
