Pedestrian Killed In North Austin Identified

Bruce Henry Chavez, 38, was killed along the 9100 block of East Parmer Lane just past midnight on Monday after being hit by a truck.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Friday identified the pedestrian who was killed this week after being struck by a vehicle in North Austin.

The incident occurred on Monday, April 20, just after midnight along the 9100 block of East Parmer Lane, according to a police advisory. Investigators said a 2017 white freightliner box truck was traveling eastbound within the inside lane when it struck a pedestrian who was in the middle of the lane.

The pedestrian, Bruce Henry Chavez, 38, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Offiicials did not indicate whether the driver faced any charges as a result of the traffic death.

The incident marked the city's 27th fatal traffic crash of 2020, police said, resulting in 29 fatalities this year. At this time in 2019, police added, there were 22 traffic fatalities.
