Pflugerville ISD To Implement Clear Bag Policy For Sports Events

PFLUGERVILLE, TEXAS — Pflugerville is the latest school district among area ones to implement a clear bag policy at sporting events, according to school district officials.

The Pflugerville School District is scheduled to require attendees to its Pfield to carry their belongings in clear bags as a security measure, following such policies already practiced among school districts in the region.

“The safety of our students, parents and fans in attendance at our sporting events is our No. 1 priority at The Pfield,” Pflugerville Athletic Director Todd Raymond said in a prepared statement. “This clear bag policy will help us keep everyone in attendance at our football and soccer games safe.”

Approved bags include clear bags that do not exceed 12 inches in length or height and 6 inches in width. The policy limits each person to one bag. Bags must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and have a maximum of one logo imprint not exceeding 4.5 inches tall and 3.4 inches wide.

Backpacks, duffle bags, purses, large fanny packs, large tote bags, diaper bags and camera cases are among the non-approved bags at The Pfield beginning in August 2019. Exceptions to the clear bag policy will be made for credentialed media and those with necessary medical items after proper inspection at designated areas.

Non-clear bags still will be permitted into the stadium so long as they are small bags no larger than the size of a hand, such as clutch with or without the strap, according to a press advisory issued by the school district.

The school district joins Austin ISD, Lake Travis ISD and Hays CISD in implementing clear bag policies over the past year. The University of Texas also has a clear bag clear bag policy for its sporting events

"Fans who recently attended sporting events at The University of Texas recently should be familiar with clear bag policies as UT Athletics implemented its own clear bag policy within the last two years," Pflugerville ISD officials wrote. Universities across the nation have begun using clear bag policies at sporting events and school districts are beginning to follow suit in an effort to ensure a safe and secure environment at the games."
