Son Arrested In Mother's Fatal Shooting In North Austin

AUSTIN, TX — A man faces murder charges in connection to the fatal shooting of his mother in North Austin, authorities said Tuesday.

Augustine Moreno, 32, was arrested Saturday and charged with murder in the death of his mother, Lidia Carapia-Hernandez. As of Thursday, he was no longer booked in Travis County Jail.

Police received a 911 call at 3:20 p.m. Saturday for a woman shot at the Ironhouse Flat Apartments on 1930 W. Rundberg Lane.

When officers arrived, they found Carapia-Hernandez with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Authorities said Moreno, who was identified as the victim's son, was on scene and later arrested as a result of the investigation.

Officials said the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office conducted an autopsy on Carapia-Hernandez and Sunday and discovered her death was caused by gunshot wounds.
