Two New Parks Now Open To The Public

Pflugerville Heights, Black Locust parks were deemed priority projects.

NORTH AUSTIN-PFLUGERVILLE, TX -- Just in time for the leisure time of the holidays, Pflugerville city officials have opened two new parks: Pflugerville Heights and Black Locust.

Both parks were deemed priority projects as city officials assessed undeveloped land best suited for park creation as part of the Trails Master Plan & Undeveloped Parks Study.

Last November, voters approved a $25 million issuance of bonds dedicated to parks. Of that total, $4 million was set aside to target undeveloped parks. In the case of the pair of just-opened parks, city officials said park escrow funds were used in tandem with proceeds from the Deutschen Pfest toward their development.

Among the amenities at Black Locust Park are a playscape; pavilion with picnic tables; benches; drinking fountain; and landscaping. Pfugerville Heights Park enhancements include the same features as those found in Black Locust with the addition of an open play area.

All told, the city identified 14 undeveloped land tracts with park potential, later devising 10 park concepts and projected cost for each one.
