Watch Tribe Mafia's NPR Tiny Desk Contest Submission 2021
This Texas duo is taking Austin's urban music scene by storm. Tribe Mafia debuts their acoustic performance of "Testify" featuring Sam Sage.

The Nigerian singer and songwriter Chinasa Broxton and Native American emcee, Carlos “Dashawn Daniels” Moore are making noise in their hometown Austin, Texas . Giving Austin’s music scene a new taste of Afro-fusion which incorporates sonics and influences from a myriad of genres, laid on an Afrobeat foundation. The sound has been inescapable this year. Tribe Mafia has been touring the world for the majority of 2019 and has at least 10 songs in the current nightclub rotation. In collaboration with the Alternate Sound band Cold Rice, Tribe Mafia strips back "Testify," a hit from their anticipated 2021 summer album “it’s a tribe ting,” with an unfettered rendition showcasing their natural voice devoid of any vocal effects. And the result sounds fantastic.
Like all touring artists, the pandemic forced Tribe Mafia to spend extended time at their home instead of traveling the world. The last year allowed them to re-center themselves in their hometown. Rounding out this Tiny Desk (home) concert submission, they began with "Testify," a single from the album “it’s a tribe ting”. The album blends their native Yoruba language with Nigerian Pidgin English, Spanish, Albanian underpinned by a catchy, feel-good rhythm.
