Woman Killed In Multi-Car Wreck In North Austin Identified

Police responded to the 7400 block of North Interstate 35 early Saturday when they found Denyse Jaimes-Olmos, 26, on the roadway.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Monday identified the woman who was killed in a multi-car wreck in North Austin on Saturday.

Police responded to the 7400 block of North Interstate 35, northbound, just before 2:30 a.m., when they found Denyse Jaimes-Olmos, 26, on the roadway, law enforcement officials wrote in an advisory. A police investigation showed that Jaimes-Olmos was traveling northbound in a 2011 GMC Terrain when she crashed into a barricade on the outside shoulder, according to the advisory.

After the initial impact, police said, the crash victim's vehicle slid across all lanes of the highway before coming to rest in the inside lane. A second car then crashed into her vehicle from behind, causing the woman to fall onto the roadway, police said, before a third car to strike her. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the second vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said, adding there were no injuries reported from the third vehicle.

The incident marked Austin’s eighth fatal traffic crash of 2021, police said, resulting in nine fatalities. At this time in 2020, police added, there were twelve traffic fatalities.
