1 Killed, 1 Injured When Car Is Ripped In Half During Crash

Police said a man killed and his younger brother was hurt when they crashed into a sign pillar on the feeder road in east Houston.

CHANNELVIEW, TX — An 18-year-old man was killed and his younger brother was injured when their car was ripped in half during a horrific crash. The crash happened just after 3:30 a.m. Monday on the East Freeway feeder road near Market Street, police said.

Investigators said the two brothers were driving a green Saturn and traveling east on the feeder road when the driver lost control and crashed into a freeway sign pillar. The car was split in half by the impact, and the driver was ejected from the car and died at the scene.

The man’s younger brother was in the passenger seat and was wearing his seat belt, police said.The teen passenger was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital in unknown condition but is expected to be OK.

Investigators do not believe alcohol caused the crash, but are working to determine how fast the vehicle was traveling at the time of the crash. The names of the victims have not yet been released.
