Babin Wins Congressional Seat, Voters Make Change In League City
New faces are coming to some council seats in League City, and Brian Babin keeps his seat in Congress.

HOUSTON, TX — It was a wild night in politics with many of the county offices represented by Republicans going to Democrats, and changes coming even on the local level.
However, that was not the case for the congressional district 36 seat where Republican Brian Babin retained his seat in the House of Representatives. Babin, who has served since 2014 defeated Dana Steele, winning 61,259 ballots from Harris County voters.
In Harris County races, the spotlight was on Harris County Judge Ed Emmett who made his last run as county judge. It was hardly an easy one with Emmett losing his re-election bid to Democrat Lina Hidalgo, with the pair virtually tied throughout the contest.

Emmett, who earned high praise for his work to pass a $2.5 billion flood control bond in August was an early favorite to win reelection as Harris County Judge.
In the Precinct 2 Commissioners race Republican Jack Morman narrowly defeated former Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia with 51 percent of the ballots winning 102,819, to Garcia's 100,107 votes. In Precinct 4, Republican Commissioner Jack Cagle won by 54 percent with 165,601 votes to defeat Democrat Penny Shaw.

The midterm elections were almost solely about the passage of propositions and charter amendments in communities like Baytown, Webster, and League City, with nearly all of those passing easily.
However, there several city council races in League City on Tuesday night. In the League City mayoral race, incumbent Pat Hallisey won 259 ballots with 70 percent of the votes, defeating Sebastian Lofaro who received 109 ballots.
In the council race for Position 1, Traci Jacobs took 286 votes to defeat Andy Mann. Jacobs will replace incumbent Dan Becker, who was not on the ballot.
In the three-way race for Position 6, Silvio Vincenzo won 123 of the votes to Chad Tressler’s 111 votes. Chris Gross came in third with 97 votes.
In the council race for Position 7, it was incumbent Nick Long winning his re-election bid, and defeating challenger Ange Mertens 180 voters to 164.
There were also school board races on the ballot with four positions on the ballot for Channelview ISD. For the Position 4 seat, Dagoberto Alonso lost to Patrick Lacy, who garnered 2,226 votes.
In the Position 5 trustee race, Frank Renard Bryant easily defeated Greg Johnstone, winning 2,371 votes in the contest. Position 6 candidate Kent E. Wilson also did well in his race, easily defeating
Walter Lee Gant III, with 2,138 to Gant’s 1,924 vote total.
In the Position 7 contest, Raquel Dobbins won by just two votes, defeating Dennis Cedillo 2,085 to 2,083.
