DuPont announced that 26 more people will lose their jobs.

LA PORTE, TX — DuPont will lay off another 26 people from the company's facility in La Porte. Company officials announced the layoffs in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice (WARN) sent to the Texas Workforce Commission.

The notice, sent July 18, told the state that DuPont plans to eliminate another 50 jobs from the La Porte facility. Earlier this month, DuPont announced that the company was laying off another 10 people as the company works to decommission the plant.

The decision to scrap the plant was made in March, after the plant had been sidelined for about five months following a gas leak that killed four people. Prior to the gas leak, DuPont's La Porte plant employed 500 people.

The DuPont layoffs come at a turbulent time for the communities along the ship channel. Dow Chemical, which is in the midst of merging with DuPont, announced that it too will be laying off employees.
